Who we are

We are a friendly, family church, where all ages are welcome to worship together and to get to know Jesus better. Our mission is simply three words: Worship | Disciple | Transform.

We also have a leadership team which consists of our full-time vicar, a full-time curate, a part-time children and families worker, a part-time youth enabler, a licensed lay reader, two churchwardens, a treasurer, a lead on prayer, pastoral care and outreach.

Rev Matt Taylor | Vicar

Matt was ordained in 2011, before that his career career was in Design and Media working for CWR Publishing and managing their creative team. He has a BA in Fine Art, and has for many years been a semi-professional musician playing secular venues, but also has much experience leading worship at various churches/Christian events. After training at St Mellitus, his Curacy and Associate Minister’s post was in Northamptonshire, before moving to Coventry to take up the post at St Martin’s. He is married to Sandra who is a singer and is currently training to become a counsellor, she regularly helps with Sunday Worship. They have two grown up children who are both married, and they have recently become  grandparents, which they are loving.

Rev Abby Rhodes | Curate

Abby was ordained in June 2019, and joined St Martin’s as Curate the next day! Before training for ordination at St Mellitus College in London and on placement in Leamington Spa, she had been a freelance singer and singing teacher for 7 years. Before that, she worked in corporate communications for a government agency, having left university with a BA in Modern Languages. It’s a long story, but God has taken her on an exciting adventure over the last 20 years!

Abby still sings and loves not only leading worship but helping others to discover their gifts in that area too. She is passionate about God’s word and how his Spirit can impact us in scripture, as well as prayer and worship.

Abby is married to Mike, and they have two teenage boys.  The whole family love to travel and explore new places and the more unusual, the better! With a sport-mad son, she has also found herself enjoying watching football and, with both West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City supporters in the house, has learnt to smile in the face of adversity over recent years!

St Martin’s is fortunate to have a large family of volunteers who support and develop many activities such as homegroups, pastoral care, and different social events. For more details about our groups go to Our Groups or visit the What’s On page.

As part of the Church of England, we are governed by the Parochial Church Council (PCC). 2016-7. St Martin’s is a registered charity (number 1133962).
